The Puglia (Apulia) province is located along the Adriatic Sea facing Croatia, Albania and Greece. This is one of the warmest regions for Italian winemaking and it produces some of the yummiest reds and whites in the Country. Grape varieties include the indigenous Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Moscato, Verdeca, Bambino Nero, Bambino Bianco, Uva di Troia and Susumaniello. These are joined by more well known Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Merlot, Montepulciano, Chardonnay, Garganega, Greco, Pinot Bianco, RieslingRenano, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Trebbiano and Vermentino. The breadth of offerings from this region is exciting and perhaps they are not the best of their type but the uniform quality is quite high and they represent great value.
