In this series we explore the ancient but little understood wine regions of Eastern Europe. The wines of Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, Georgia and Greece have come a long way since the fall of the Iron Curtain in the late 1990's. Though Hungary and Greece had long produced a few high quality and somewhat legendary wines, most of these Countries focused on cheap swill. Today, this is changing dramatically and wine drinkers the World over will be surprised by the quality of the wines being produced in each of these countries. This short course is packed with essential information that will give you all you need to discover the great wines from these Countries. Yes, we will be tasting wines during this Xploration, so if you would like to join in, we will send you a list of 16 wines that we will be tasting during the two - 2 hour sessions. Some of these wines are hard to come by in many markets but ideally, we would like you to be tasting the same producer and vintage that we are using in the class. It is a lot of wines, so you may want to get several or even a dozen friends to do the sessions with you and split the cost of the wines. A certificate of completion is issued to each enrolled student completing the course. An optional exam is offered with everyone scoring 90% or better receiving a Level One Certification in Eastern European Wines. This course is an excellent prep class for the Mastering Eastern European Wines Course. While not required as a pre-requisite, it is highly recommended as the Mastering Eastern European Wine course does reference some of the foundational material in this class and the Foundations courses, that is is assumed you already have mastered.
